Transfer rumors involving Enzo Fernandez: Chelsea completes £107 million deal for Benfica midfielder.

Chelsea has signed Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for a British record fee of 121 million euros (£107 million).

The fee exceeds the £100 million paid by Manchester City for Jack Grealish in 2021.

Fernandez, who only joined Benfica in August for a reported £10 million, was named the tournament’s youngest player during Argentina’s World Cup victory in Qatar.

Chelsea’s January spending now stands at £289 million, according to transfer website Transfermarkt.

The agreement follows a £270 million outlay in the summer, a record for a British club in the summer window.

It is the sixth most expensive signing in history, equaling the 120 million euros paid by Barcelona for France forward Antoine Griezmann in 2019.

Fernandez, who joined Benfica from River Plate in Argentina, has four goals in 29 appearances for the Primeira Liga club.
