According to the White House, President Joe Biden has no plans to intervene in the tumultuous process of selecting a new House Speaker on Capitol Hill.
“The president served as a United States senator for 34 years and understands how this process works,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said. “He will not, without a doubt, interfere with that process.”
House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy has so far failed to secure enough votes to become speaker, leaving the outcome uncertain.
The White House has been closely monitoring the process as it works to determine who will lead the chamber for the next two years.
Despite the chaos, Biden remains optimistic about working with both parties in the coming months.
“We look forward to working with congressional colleagues this year in the new Congress, including Democrats, Republicans, and independents, to continue to move the country forward for the American people,” Jean-Pierre said.
