The United Kingdom defeated Spain 3-1 to advance to the United Cup play-offs.

With a win over Spain in Sydney, the United Kingdom advanced to the play-off round of the inaugural United Cup.

Dan Evans put Great Britain up 3-1 in the best-of-five series at the Ken Rosewall Arena.

The British number two defeated Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-3 1-6 6-3 after world number 13 Paula Badosa defeated Harriet Dart 6-7 (6-8) 7-6 (7-5) 6-1.

Cameron Norrie defeated Rafael Nadal on Saturday, and Katie Swan defeated Nuria Parrizas-Diaz to put Britain up 2-0.

Dart and Jonny O’Mara are currently in the final doubles rubber against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and David Vega Hernandez.

The United Kingdom will face the United States, Germany, or the Czech Republic in the Sydney City Final on Wednesday, which serves as a play-off for the semi-finals.

“We’ve had a little luck, a few withdrawals,” Evans, 32, explained. “We’ve also performed admirably on the court.

“We take pride in our team spirit and our willingness to go the extra mile for one another.”

Six round-robin groups of three teams compete in Sydney, Perth, and Brisbane in the mixed-team tournament.

The winner of each City Final, as well as the runners-up with the best record, will advance to the semi-finals in Sydney.
