The Houston Texans came under fire Sunday night when they fired head coach Lovie Smith after only one season in charge.
The firing came just hours after the Texans defeated the Indianapolis Colts and surrendered the No. 1 pick to the Chicago Bears.
“Nick Caserio and I spoke with Lovie Smith tonight and informed him that as an organization, we will be moving in a different direction,” Texans chair and CEO Cal McNair said in a statement. “I want to thank Coach Smith and his entire family for their contributions over the last two seasons. We appreciate his leadership and character, and we wish him the best in the future.
