Russian forces fought hard to take the eastern Ukrainian town of Soledar, but more battles remain, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday.
“In Soledar, enormous effort has been expended. These are truly heroic acts of selflessness. “Not only in Soledar, but in many areas where offensive operations are underway,” Peskov said. “The main work remains,” he added.
Peskov if the Kremlin is satisfied with the Wagner mercenary group’s efforts to take Soledar, as previously claimed, but the Kremlin spokesman did not mention the private military company by name in his response.
There are conflicting reports about Soledar’s whereabouts.
Wagner claimed complete control of the town on Tuesday, and the Russian Defense Ministry said the next day that its forces had “blocked Soledar from the northern and southern parts” of the settlement.
However, Ukraine said on Thursday that fighting is still going on and that Russian forces are “suffering heavy losses” in their attempts to take Soledar.
