ORCHARD PARK, New York (AP) — Jimmye Laycock’s first thought during those terrifying moments was of Damar Hamlin, the Buffalo Bills safety who collapsed on the field last week in Cincinnati.
After seeing the teary-eyed reactions of his former players, the former William & Mary coach turned to Bills coach and former player Sean McDermott. Laycock knew that if anyone could guide a team through the turbulent emotional waters, it was McDermott.
“You were aware of how serious everything was. And it is in situations like this that a true leader is required. “And Sean is unquestionably a true leader,” Laycock said by phone this week. “They were extremely fortunate to have Sean McDermott as their head coach.”
