Live at the renowned BBC Maida Vale studios, Haircut 100 played the smash song “As It Was” by Harry Styles.
The BBC Concert Orchestra provided accompaniment for the 1980s new wave band as they played a session for Radio 2 as part of Piano Room Month, which was broadcast yesterday (February 16). In other parts of the concert, they also performed two of their earlier songs, “Love Plus One” and “Fantastic Day,” which you can listen to in full here.
“Isn’t that a great song? When Radio 2’s Ken Bruce questioned frontman Nick Heyward about why they opted to cover “As It Was,” Heyward responded, “It’s so catchy.”
Only active from 1981 to 1984, Haircut 100 have now come back together. “Until death do us part, we will remain together. It’s over for good,” Heywood remarked. “Haircut 100 is for life, not only for Christmas.”

The band was also questioned regarding the band’s music being heard for the first time by younger audiences. “Isn’t it like a used-goods store? However, when you buy it, it’s a brand-new outfit for you, Heywood said.
Pelican West, the band’s debut album from 1982, is soon to be reissued. In addition, they have a one-time reunion gig scheduled for May 13 at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, and they’ve told Bruce that they intend to tour later this year.
At the BRIT Awards 2023 over the weekend, Styles won four awards, including Song of the Year for “As It Was.” Styles, who also won the BRIT Awards for Best Album, Best Pop/R&B Artist, and Artist of the Year, became just the third artist to do so, following Blur in 1995 and Adele in 2016.
Dave Rowntree of Blur sarcastically greeted him as a member of the “Four BRITs Club.” “These past few years have been a little lonely with just us and Adele. You can bring the biscuits to the March meeting, he tweeted.
