England forwards coach Richard Cockerill will depart after the 2023 Six Nations

After the Six Nations, Richard Cockerill will quit his position as England’s forwards coach to join French club Montpellier.

Ian Peel, the forwards coach for Saracens, is anticipated to succeed the 52-year-old.

Following Steve Borthwick’s appointment as Eddie Jones’ replacement as head coach in December, Cockerill was the sole assistant coach from Jones’ tenure still in place.

In September 2021, the former England hooker joined the team and called it “an honor” to have represented and now led his nation on the field.

In his playing career, Cockerill earned 27 England caps. After Jones was fired, Cockerill served as acting head coach for a short time.

Borthwick is seeking to strengthen the team before the World Cup that starts in 2023 after five victories from 12 tests in 2022.
