As a result of the severe flooding in California County, one person was discovered dead in a flooded car.

A Sacramento Metro Fire spokesperson confirmed that the deceased were recovered from their flooded vehicle in Sacramento County’s southernmost region, near the city of Elk Grove.

According to Sacramento Metro Fire, the deceased’s identity and cause of death have not been confirmed pending a coroner’s examination.

The National Weather Service in Sacramento issued flash flood warnings for the area, advising motorists to avoid driving.

The flooding in the area was caused by a levee break in several locations, according to Sacramento Metro Fire Captain and Public Information Officer Parker Wilbourn.

Wilton residents were ordered to shelter in place earlier Saturday afternoon by the Sacramento County Office of Emergency Services.
