After the Covid lull, countries around the world celebrate the New Year.

After two years of muted or cancelled events due to the Covid pandemic, countries around the world celebrated the New Year.

There have been celebrations on the east coast of the United States, as well as in Brazil, Argentina, and the Caribbean.

Cities throughout Europe, Africa, and Asia have also celebrated the start of 2023 with firework displays.

Huge crowds gathered in China to take advantage of recently lifted restrictions.

Until recently, the country had taken a zero-Covid approach, maintaining strict lockdowns even as other countries around the world appeared to be returning to normalcy.

However, the disease is spreading across the country, and many countries are imposing travel restrictions on Chinese visitors – Australia is the latest.

Tsai Ing-wen, Taiwan’s president, used her New Year’s address to offer China assistance in combating the recent surge in Covid cases.
